2022—2023 annual report
Collaborate. Innovate. Lead.
OUR MISSION
Facilitate and be the catalyst for workforce development services that are responsive to the employment needs of Brevard County.
OUR VISION
A highly competitive workforce for Brevard County.
OUR IMPACT
$11.3 Million invested in employment and training services helped place 2,685 people in jobs, creating a $84M annualized infusion of full-time wages in Brevard County.
With sincere appreciation to our dedicated team and valued partners for their exceptional work and collaborative efforts, I present our annual report and am confident you will recognize the impact of their contributions.

Before delving into our accomplishments, I’d like to share updates on key programs and initiatives that gained significant momentum toward the end of the program year.

Our commitment to expanding apprenticeship opportunities received significant support from CareerSource Florida, Florida State Department of Education, the Brevard County School District and our partners in economic development. Armed with a state-appointed apprenticeship navigator, we helped create and expand more than four registered apprenticeship programs across key industries. These pre-apprenticeship and registered apprenticeship programs are a critical component in bridging the talent gap and cultivating the next generation of highly skilled workers.

Addressing the talent shortage in the healthcare industry, particularly heightened by the aging population in Brevard, we have emerged as steadfast allies. Our collaboration with Dwyer Workforce Development, a non-profit healthcare workforce development program, has empowered individuals to pursue careers in healthcare through Certified Nursing Assistant training scholarships, job placement support, and other strategic initiatives.

In support of the Florida Atlantic Workforce Alliance (FAWA), more than 150 businesses and key stakeholders spanning Florida’s east coast from Flagler County through St. Lucie County actively participated in the inaugural FAWA consortium meeting. This grant-funded initiative strategically addresses the persistent shortage of skilled talent in Aerospace/Aviation, Information Technology/Cyber Security, and Advanced Manufacturing.

Demonstrating its commitment to progress, the consortium established three councils, each focusing on one targeted industry. During the first industry council meeting, more than 60 businesses, training providers, and community partners collaborated to identify and prioritize specific workforce challenges requiring immediate attention.

These councils are scheduled to meet regularly to develop sustainable action plans and monitor growth and improvements through the fall of 2024. Addressing the grant’s supplementary goals, additional training programs that align with the targeted industries have been identified, further expanding CareerSource Brevard’s Education and Training Provider List (ETPL). The added programs ensure our customers will have access to even more in-demand training opportunities at no cost.

The initiatives of Florida's REACH Act are actively underway, marking the establishment of a unified workforce board serving Brevard, Flagler, and Volusia counties. Our combined team of workforce professionals is actively taking steps to support the REACH act, and we look forward to providing additional workforce solutions across this expanded service area.

I am dedicated to keeping you informed as these exciting developments unfold. Together, we are shaping a future where opportunities abound, and businesses and individuals thrive.
MARCI MURPHY
PRESIDENT, CAREERSOURCE BREVARD
From the Chair
Welcome to our 2022-2023 year in review. As we reflect upon the past year, it brings me immense joy to share the remarkable strides we have made.

None of our successes would have been attainable without the commitment and expertise of the CareerSource Brevard staff and the unwavering support of Florida’s elected officials, leaders in education, community services, and emerging industries. Together we have tackled critical issues and driven positive economic change within our region.

Here are some noteworthy highlights from the year:

Pioneering Innovative Solutions:
Amidst a persistently low unemployment rate, our commitment to providing tailored training programs and mentorship initiatives to jobseekers launched 2,685 people into employment.

Forging Career Pathways: The rise in the minimum wage has prompted a significant 14% shift in young adult towards jobs in the service industry. While we have made job placement a top priority, we have introduced this talent to a wide array of skills training and industries to support their career journey.

Elevating Construction Opportunities: Our Rebuild Florida Workforce Recovery Training Program, designed to aid communities affected by Hurricane Irma and train Floridians in essential construction trades, has brought about a staggering 10% increase in jobseekers. This couldn't have come at a better time to support our new Hurricane Ian Workforce Recovery Grant.

Strengthening Manufacturing: Our efforts to raise awareness about the training and employment programs available for the 500+ manufacturing companies in Brevard County have resulted in a remarkable 10% surge in jobseekers, particularly those with skills in production and assembly.

Serving Jobseekers and the Community: We are proud to announce the successful conclusion of our COVID-19 Workforce Recovery Assistance program, a joint effort with the Brevard County Board of County Commissioners. This program, aimed at assisting small businesses and organizations impacted by the pandemic, not only led to 115 individuals finding employment but also supported local partners in delivering more than 150,000 meals to those in need.

Expanded Relationships: CareerSource Brevard has actively engaged with Space Florida to contribute to their workforce initiatives. Our involvement includes delivering impactful keynote addresses across diverse forums. We support Space Florida and all our partners in cultivating the growth and skill development of the next generation workforce.

Improving Processes: Our Board is positively engaging the Florida REACH Act initiatives and working closely with CareerSource Flager Volusia on our planned consolidation.

On behalf of the Board of Directors, I extend our deepest gratitude to all of you. Your dedication and involvement are pivotal to our shared success.
